This is an indispensable guide to teaching the Social Literacy materials. Beginning with a background to the Project and what it set out to do, this overview book goes on to summarise the contents of the materials and the concept development from unit to unit. It discusses the methodology of concept building and lesson sequencing employed. The major contents of the materials are then described: cultural differences, antiracism, non-sexism and academic skills building. The book concludes with the practicalities of implementation (programming, adaptions, evaluation) and with the model of curriculum making developed by the Social Literacy team. Written in a form accessible to practising teachers and as a minimal reference guide to the Project, this overview summarises many of the issues discussed in the Social Literacy Monograph Series.
