Social Literacy Book D6
This book examines different types of community: village, city and island communities. Drawing together all the concepts developed in the six units that make up Series D of the Social Literacy materials, students generalise about the importance of 'dependence', 'co-operation', 'relationships', 'rules' and 'services' in making community. As a conclusion to this unit, students construct their own, imagined community. The unit also includes a dictionary of all the main concepts used in Series D. The Social Literacy Project has developed this unit a s part of an interdisciplinary social science course for primary and secondary schools. The goal of social literacy is for students to develop a framework of social concepts as tools for social understanding and active, confident social participation.
