Social Literacy Book F1
This book investigates the different ways in which culture is learnt. How would a new-born baby survive except in a human environment in which it learnt social skills? How do we learn through our five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch? How do we learn through our behaviour: copying, helping, sharing, practising and reading, writing and drawing? How does force influence our behaviour? Students are encouraged to think about their own lives and to make cross-cultural comparisons. This unit lays a foundation for subsequent units which develop further the concept of culture. The Social Literacy Project has developed this unit as part of an interdisciplinary social science course for primary and secondary schools. The goal of social literacy is for students to develop a framework of social concepts as tools for social understanding and active, confident social participation.
