Social Literacy Book H3
Culture Contact, develops themes and concepts introduced in Unit H3, Ecosystems. It examines the changes that have come about in the way of life of Aboriginal peoples with the arrival of new settlers and new patterns of social organisation. The focus is on North America and the Cherokee Indians. Comparisons are made with the history of the Australian Aboriginal peoples. The concepts developed in this unit lay a foundation for subsequent units on industrial society and possible human futures, and contribute to the overall theme of this series of units: Patterns of Social Organisation. The Social Literacy Project is developing an interdisciplinary social science program for primary and secondary schools. The overall goal of social literacy is to develop a framework of social concepts as tools for social understanding and active, confident social participation.
